Depth of Field: A Simple Explanation

When I first got into photography, the phrase “depth of field” used to really throw me. It all seemed so backwards to me, “shallow depth of field” and “deep depth of field”. What does all of that mean? A Visit to Monticello

I visited Monticello (Tomas Jefferson’s home) in Charlottsville, VA. They unfortunately don’t allow photography of any kind inside the house, but you can shoot outside (and under) the house. I visited in the winter after a snowstorm, so some areas were off limits. Still, I was able to capture some pretty cool stuff.

Smuggler’s Notch

It rained a LOT while I was in Vermont, so I didn’t get many shots of leaves. Probably the best shots I got were in Smuggler’s Notch. Smugglers’ Notch Resort is a resort area in the Town of Cambridge, near Jeffersonville, Vermont.
